Jesse Vincent "Jim" Myers
Jesse “Jim” V. Myers, age 90, of South Bend, passed away on September 28, 2016 at 8:05 AM at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa, IN. He was born December 11, 1925 to August and Elizabeth (Hudkins) Myers in Kewanna, Indiana. On December 8, 1943, Jesse enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS LST 498 and was involved in the Normandy Invasion on Omaha Beach. Upon his separation from the United States Navy, he held the rank of Seaman First Class. D-Day and his time stationed in England always held special memories for him. He was extremely proud of his service for his country. On August 1, 1948, Jesse married Ramona A. Gibbs. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2011. He worked at Uniroyal for 44 years before retirement. Mr. Myers was a member of the Lydick United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Lydick Lions Club, VFW Post 360, and was an assistant Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts. Jesse enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Jesse is survived by his children, Linda “L.G.” de Romero of Elkhart, Kris “Kay” (Paul) Troyer of Goshen, Shelley (Kirk) Carithers of Jimtown; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; his siblings, L. G. Von Myers of Mishawaka, Barbara Freshour of South Bend, and Charles Myers of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ramona; his son-in-law, Carlos Romero; and siblings, Imogene Hodges, William, Virginia Sawyer, Tom, and Robert Dean. Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 1 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. There will be a funeral service in Mr. Myers’ honor Monday, October 3, 2016 at 2 PM at the funeral home The Rev. Jungbum Kim will be officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are directed to the Lydick Lions Club, 26205 West Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628.
