Obituary for
James W. "Jim" Cofield
ELKHART – James W. Cofield, 56, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on July 18, 2017. Jim was born on April 15, 1961 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Donald Cofield and Sally (Sarah Lewis) LaMothe. On July 7, 2000, Jim married his longtime love, Sheila Bodkins.
Jim was a wiz when it came to electronics, gardening, and landscaping. His family knew him as their own personal “MacGyver” – he was an all-around creative genius. While Jim has owned a security/alarm company for over a decade, his entrepreneurship dates back to the age of 9, when he created his own business cards to advertise his lawn mowing business. In his childhood years, Jim was known for his impressive whistling ability, even showcasing his talent on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson!
Jim served as a volunteer firefighter for Clay and Concord Townships for many years. He never knew a stranger, and will surely be missed by all who were touched by his room-filling presence, jovial personality, and pure dedication to the love of his family.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He is survived by his wife Sheila; sons Bill (Telenna) Cofield, Brandon Cofield, Gary Columbus, and Nathaniel (Tiffani) McKinney; daughter Kylee Bowerman; sisters Beth Courtney and Amy Cofield; brother John (Christi) Cofield; his mother, Sarah (Paul) LaMothe, ten grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy in Osceola. Given the sudden nature of Jim’s loss, please consider directing any gifts to his family, to honor his legacy of providing for them.
