Rose M. Whittaker (Hettinger)
MISHAWAKA- Rose M. Whittaker, 90, passed away peacefully at Worthington Place in Camby, Indiana in the late evening hours of Monday, November 6, 2017. Rose was born to the late George and Agnes Hettinger April 23, 1927 in Elkhart, Indiana. She married Bennie Whittaker in Lapaz, Indiana on May 1, 1954. Together, Rose and Bennie celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing in December of 2014.
Rose was a past member of First Brethren Church in South Bend. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling. Many folks in the community may recognize her from Bishop Buffet in South Bend where she worked for a number of years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always loved spending time with her family.
Rose is survived by her sons, James (Mary Ann) Whittaker, Steve (Lynn) Whittaker, and Darrell (Teresa) Whittaker; grandchildren, Angela Whittaker, Michael Whittaker, Melissa Whittaker, Nicole Reitzel, Stacey Macri, Tara Bowles, and Todd Bowles, and great-grandchildren, Jackson Reitzel, Reid Macri, Casha Winslow, Colin Bowles, and Christopher Smith. In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Ernest Hettinger, and four sisters, Agnes Hess, Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Jacox, Anna ‘Annie’ Winningham, and Helen Chaffee.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, Osceola.
