Obituary for
Janice L. Bryant (Parcell)
MISHAWAKA - Janice Lorein (Parcell) Bryant, 79, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, at North Woods Village in Mishawaka.
Janice was born the youngest of five children on July 16, 1938, to Harvey and Lorein (Newcomer) Parcell. She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1956, married her high school sweetheart Daniel in 1957, and together they started their family in 1958. That family grew to include four children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Janice centered her entire life around faith, family, and friends. Those who knew Janice can share endless stories of her compassion, generosity, selflessness, and devotion to her God, Jehovah. She was a loving wife who enjoyed 56 wonderful years with her best friend, Daniel. She was an example to all mothers on how to raise children with unconditional and unlimited love. Janice loved the outdoors and found great joy in spending time with others on the lake, hiking in the woods, or telling stories and singing songs around a campfire. She was a nature lover who enjoyed gardening and attracting a variety of birds to her feeders. When she was indoors, you’d often find Janice enjoying a good book or playing cards or a board game with friends and family. Janice was a wonderful cook who delighted in preparing dishes from scratch and sharing those special meals with others. She loved all kinds of music, especially bluegrass and folk music, and played the piano, dulcimer, and autoharp. Her beautiful smile lit up every room she entered, and her sense of fun and easy laughter were contagious. You could often find Janice participating in fun and adventurous activities with people half her age, which likely explains why most believed her to be much younger than her actual years. No matter what opportunities or privileges came her way, including traveling to destinations worldwide, Janice remained a very humble person who embraced simple living and a strong work ethic to the very end.
Janice expressed her deep love for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in so many ways. Janice’s four children, who survive her, are: Lori (Lance) Long of Mishawaka, Andrew (Lisa) Bryant of Mishawaka, John (Kim) Bryant of Mishawaka, and Jennifer Bryant of Grand Haven, Michigan. Janice was also blessed with 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Matt) Blimling, Corie (Justin) Waugh, Kathryn (Andrew) O’Connell, Chelsea (Jason) Kite, Michael Long, Justin Bryant, Sam Bryant, Nathan Long, Mitchell (Jenna) Bryant, and Thomas Bryant. Janice’s great-grandchildren are: Bowen Blimling, Jackson Blimling, Emma O’Connell, Lucy Blimling, Nolan Markel, Tate Waugh, Macy O’Connell, Hollis Bryant, Quinn Waugh, and Ian Markel.
Those close to Janice who preceded her in death include her parents, husband Daniel, sister Betty, sister Phyllis, sister Carol, brother Ralph, sisters-in-law Sherry and Rebekah, and beloved dog Chloe.
Janice’s family wish to express special thanks to those who provided extra care and support during her final years, particularly the attentive and loving staff at North Woods Village.
