Daniel R. O’Brien, Sr., age 74, of Elkhart passed away on October 8, 2016 at 2:22 PM in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, IN. The Elkhart native was born September 16, 1942 to John D. and Margaret (Marinak) O’Brien in Philadelphia, PA. On January 26, 1963, Daniel married Alice G. Birkenfeld. On July 3, 1986 Daniel married Betty L. Craigo. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2010. Daniel served his country honorably from 1961-1966 in the United States Air Force. Mr. O’Brien worked in manufacturing for many years as a press operator and set up professional. Daniel is survived by his children, Daniel R. (Arlene) O’Brien of Texas, Stephen J. O’Brien of Arizona, Tamara K. O’Brien of Michigan, Cynthia M. O’Brien and Christopher P. O’Brien both of Arizona, and Andrew J. O’Brien of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a stepdaughter, Betty Kipker of Elkhart; three step grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren; his first wife and the mother of their six children, Alice G. O’Brien; his siblings, Mary (Karl) Hummer, Peggy (David) Ridgway, Nancy Ridgway, Joseph (Patty) O’Brien, and Patrick (Anna) O’Brien. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty O’Brien; a grandchild, Kayla Marie, a stepson, Jeff Mack, step-great grandson, Logan; a brother, John “Jack” O’Brien Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Michael Ridgway. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 2 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
